A Hag Stone, also known as an Adder Stone and a Faerie Stone is a stone that has a naturally occurring hole running through it. These stones were believed to have special — or supernatural — powers that centred on protection, luck and the magical properties they naturally and obviously possess would give a person the ability to see through the veil that separates the spirit world from the physical world of the everyday, to afford also the ability see, via the hole, the stranger or neighbour who is in fact a witch or a fairy in disguise.

I have spent years searching for and collecting these elusive and therefore precious stones. I have amassed quite a large collection. I have to admit —on the risk of offending some of the others — that I have my favourites, my familiars if you will — and that of these favourites — my favoured favourites pebble paramours and flinty old hags.
